[SOLVED]Downloaded image files from drive & now gthumb & pix crash

When opening *.png files (or a png file when opening a directory) downloaded from drive.google.com (using mygoogle.google.com)

libpng error: Not a PNG file
Aborted (core dumped)

Opening a specific PNG file from download works (as well as opening in gimp)

strace pointed to offending file(s) which was (were) in .../thumbnails/

Deleted all in .../thumbnails/*
No more crashes
