[SOLVED]wifi signal level very poor

My laptop is a Tuxedo InfinityBook Pro 14 - Gen7. In the same room as the router, the link quality is 60 - 70%, and the signal level is very poor, 60 - 70% (data from wavemon).

dmesg -w returns no deauthentication errors.

lspci -k returns:

Network controller: Intel Corporation Alder Lake-P PCH CNVi WiFi (rev 01)
DeviceName: Onboard - Ethernet
Subsystem: Intel Corporation Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160MHz
Kernel driver in use: iwlwifi
Kernel modules: iwlwifi

dmesg | grep firmware returns:

iwlwifi 0000:00:14.3: loaded firmware version 74.a5e9588b.0 so-a0-hr-b0-74.ucode op_mode iwlmvm

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Re: [SOLVED]wifi signal level very poor

This is probably a hardware problem. I've contacted the vendor company (Tuxedo Computers), so you can ignore the thread.
Thank you again.

That chip set is very well supported and, in fact, is the very chip set it my Asus Vivobook.
What is the output of iw wlan0 station dump   ? (Assuming your network is called wlan0 -- find what yours is called using ip link)

Re: [SOLVED]wifi signal level very poor

I am at work with my laptop with that card, and I am currently seeing -77dBm in an area of the building with just ok coverage.  My reported link quality is 38/70 and my WiFi is performing well.  You are seeing a signal about 6dB stronger than what I am seeing.  Your Tx retries seems a little high.

All you have reported is a low signal level.  Are you experiencing any other performance issues with the link?
Is this in the 2.4GHz band or the 5GHz band?

Now the link quality is 57% (source: wavemon) and the band is the 2.4Hgz, but after walking up to the router the band moved to 5GHz.
What puzzles me is that my old ASUS with the same distro, in the same network and in the same location has a good signal level. It does not seem possible that a new laptop with the characteristics of the InfinityBook Pro Gen 7 could have a clearly worse performance than a 2015-laptop.

Re: [SOLVED]wifi signal level very poor

I mark the thread as "solved" because there is no Arch Linux-related issues. Thanks.
