[SOLVED] Media controls through bluetooth headset

I'm frequently using my bluetooth headset with content played in Kodi or Spotify. However, the headset's play/pause controls don't work. Volume up/down is working fine. I can't find where I can configure these settings. Can someone give me some pointers? Google was't very helpful, unfortunately.

This should be what you need: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/MPRIS#Bluetooth

I installed mpris and ran the service, but the only thing it does is breaking my sound output. Rebooting solves that.

I've noticed that when I double tap my headset, the default action for pause/play, Gnome displays a small 'error icon' where the volume up/down overlay usually is displayed. I'd say it is a 'keybinding' error, but I have no idea where to setup that keybinding.

On a side note: when I connect my headset to a Manjaro device, media control works out of the box.

Re: [SOLVED] Media controls through bluetooth headset

So I just found out that, actually, play/pause and all the other bluetooth controls are working with Spotify. Just not Kodi and YouTube (used in Brave) and maybe other media apps as well. Any pointers on how to fix this?

Re: [SOLVED] Media controls through bluetooth headset

Is there a way I can scan/detect and map the bluetooth input to other apps like kodi? Any idea why Spotify is working out of the box? Any help is much appreciated.

Re: [SOLVED] Media controls through bluetooth headset

This is SOLVED.

I think creating the mpris systemd service fixed the YouTube issue and the no sound issue (when running mpris-proxy). Kodi was a bit more complicated, but the Kodi forum was useful. I'm running Gnome and I had to change the values of

org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys play-static

and

org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys pause-static

to ['']

I really love Linux, but it are these kind of things that keep me from recommending it to, say, my parents or my wife...
