Can't build Butt broadcast tool inside QEMU VM

I am trying to build the Butt package from the AUR which builds and runs fine on my native Arch install on an AMD Ryzen 7 system. I am trying to build it inside a QEMU VM of Arch. Both OSes I installed the x86_64 version of Arch, and both installed base-devel. The makepkg fails and says something about GCC not being able to create an executable. The config.log output is massive and inscrutable to me. Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: Can't build Butt broadcast tool inside QEMU VM

ac_cv_env_LDFLAGS_set=set
ac_cv_env_LDFLAGS_value=-L

This seems to be the problem. Bad makepkg.conf?

Edit: or no, "  $ ./configure --prefix=/usr LDFLAGS=-L" WTF, why are you setting that?

Edit2: "  ./configure --prefix=/usr LDFLAGS="-L$(dirname $(fltk-config --libs))""

So $(dirname $(fltk-config --libs)) is coming back empty. Missing dep/makedep?

Re: Can't build Butt broadcast tool inside QEMU VM

No idea, I didn't change anything in makepkg.conf, either on the native system or the VM. What should the file look like?

If you are asking if there are any missing dependencies, I checked and all 10 listed dependencies for the package are installed.

Re: Can't build Butt broadcast tool inside QEMU VM

No, I'm saying that for one reason or another, dirname $(fltk-config --libs) is coming back empty. It could be a missing (as in non-listed) dep.

Re: Can't build Butt broadcast tool inside QEMU VM

What is the output of

$ pacman -Qs fltk
$ fltk-config --libs

?

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

(A works at time B)  && (time C > time B ) ≠  (A works at time C)
