skippy-xd is back!

skippy-xd is back!

For those who have not met skippy, skippy-xd is a lightweight, customizable, feature rich, window-manager-agnostic composite window selector for windows in the X server. With skippy, you get live-preview on your alt-tab motions; you get the much coveted expose feature from Mac; you get a handy overview of all your virtual desktops in one glance with paging mode.

If you want to fly around your daily window flow, if you want cool window motions that adds to your productivity, if you want to manage your windows like a boss, skippy-xd might be the thing for you.

In the last few months, new features has been added to the long forgotten app: animation, new layout, paging mode, live preview of minimized windows, and more.

Visit https://github.com/dreamcat4/skippy-xd/wiki/Gallery to see the new skippy-xd in action.

Visit https://github.com/dreamcat4/skippy-xd to download and try it out!

Better yet, adopt the orphan? https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/skippy-xd-git

Any and all feedbacks would be welcomed.

Also, would there be any tips on what other community I should reach out to?

Thanks!

Re: skippy-xd is back!

Welcome to the forums.  Your post is close to running afoul of https://terms.archlinux.org/docs/code-o … licitation.  If you are serious, why not go ahead and adopt the package and maintain it?  It is in the AUR after all.

Re: skippy-xd is back!

While this post looked odd to me at first, I can play devils advocate a bit.  If the OP is the upstream author of the software, it's great that they want to make themselves available to "downstream" communities.  With that, I am a strong advocate of the need for distro maintainers / packagers of software.  Upstream developers should not try to "package" for systems they don't use: they just write the software, and make themselves available to actual packagers for any patching or bug fixing that may be needed.

Packages made by upstream authors who don't use the target distro tend to be problematic - and there's enough problematic content in the AUR already.  So if any arch users are interested in skipp-xd, let them package it.  If not, then there's clearly no need for it to be packaged.  Either way, the upstream author should just focus on maintaining the software itself.

Re: skippy-xd is back!

Sorry I wasn't aware of this rule sad

My intention is to spread awareness on the app, it was once popular, died, now revived, and as far as I know there are still no similar apps and hence may well be welcomed.

And look, the package has been adopted! big_smile
