Hi, I recently switched from a Nvidia NV84 (G84) [GeForce 8600 GT] to a Nvidia GF114 [GeForce GT 610]. Previously I had Nouveau installed, and now that I installed the new graphics card everything still works fine.
Now I am trying to decide whether to switch to 390xx-dkms drivers or keep nouveau.
The 390xx-dkms are listed among the unsupported drivers, but I am wondering if there was any difference in performances between dkms and nouveau. Can you help me with that?
Thank you in advance!

Try and see but yes.
The driver has fallen out of maintainence (like 340xx) but still somewhat works and tends to give you far better performace (though GT610 isn't a particularily fast chip to begin with)
Downside is wayland support (no GBM and eglstreams has turned into a rather theoretical option)

That's interesting... although I am actually using Wayland.
Does that mean that in my case it wouldn't be a good idea to use 390xx-dkms?

Depending on whether your compositor has usable eglstreams support - you can't.

Ok... and the only way to find out is by installing 390xx or I can try something else first?

The availability of eglstreams is usually documented w/ the compositor, but I'd not hold my breath - most don't support it.
Your options are effectively "meh" performance on wayland or "serviceable" performance on X11.

I'll see what I can find, but I will probably stay with nouveau.
Thank you once again!

Please always remember to mark resolved threads by editing your initial posts subject - so others will know that there's no task left, but maybe a solution to find.
