Win32 transparent terminal
This has bothered me for some time under windows - crappy terminals. Not only that, but 'cmd' sucks as a shell, and the new "Power Shell" is almost worse.
Then I came across this: http://sourceforge.net/projects/console/
It is a transparent, tabbed terminal, for windows. It works great. Problem is, it hosts 'cmd' shells. Gah.
I looked around for things to replace it with, and found nothing. There are a few implementations of bash - notably cygwin, GnuWin32, and UnxUtils. All of these work. The only problem is that only cygwin's "ls" and other utils properly spit out windows based colored text.
