[RESOLVED] Long time before firefox starts and evolution shows emails

For the few days (maybe over a week) now, I've noticed that firefox take about 25 seconds to start and evolution requires about the same time before it will display the contents of any emails (the list and status is there immediately).

The journal when starting firefox is:

May 25 23:51:53 mypc.local dbus-daemon[2094]: [session uid=1000 pid=2094] Activating via systemd: service name='org.freedesktop.portal.Desktop' unit='xdg-desktop-portal.service' requested by ':1.115' (uid=1000 pid=9393 comm="/usr/lib/firefox/firefox")

May 25 23:53:23 mypc.local systemd[2065]: Failed to start Portal service.

Starting evolution presents the same picture:

May 26 00:01:30 mypc.local dbus-daemon[2094]: [session uid=1000 pid=2094] Activating via systemd: service name='org.freedesktop.portal.Desktop' unit='xdg-desktop-portal.service' requested by ':1.119' (uid=1000 pid=10048 comm="/usr/bin/evolution")

. . .

May 26 00:02:21 mypc.local xdg-desktop-por[10087]: Failed to create settings proxy: Error calling StartServiceByName for org.freedesktop.impl.portal.desktop.gnome: Timeout was reached

May 26 00:03:01 mypc.local systemd[2065]: Failed to start Portal service.

So there is something going on with the "GNOME Portal service" and I have no idea where to look/start.

Something is no longer configured the way a new version is expecting it to be (maybe I messed an "update" comment?) or something is corrupted.

Any help is appreciated.

Re: [RESOLVED] Long time before firefox starts and evolution shows emails

Remove xdg-desktop-portal-gnome and keep just xdg-desktop-portal-gtk. There's a bug with it in the gnome 44 release but it's also not strictly necessary if you're not on GNOME itself.

Perfect, thanks!

sudo pacman -R xdg-desktop-portal-gnome

did the trick.

Re: [RESOLVED] Long time before firefox starts and evolution shows emails

I had the same issue where GTK apps like evince and firefox was super slow to start. Removing xdg-desktop-portal-gnome did the trick.
But I am also not using GNOME as my DE. Just adding this here for other people's reference.
