Intel-ucode damaged after recent update

EDIT: Update, my system works again after commenting out intel-ucode.img in my (systemd-boot) bootloader entry. I can not continue investigating since this is a work PC and I have to get some work done now. Intel-ucode was not updated in the last update, however mkinitcpio was. Perhaps the new version of mkinitcpio (36.1) does not play well with intel-ucode for some obscure reason?

This morning, I updated my installation and everything went smoothly. After rebooting, I was greeted with "Failed to execute Arch Linux (\vmlinuz-linux): Volume Corrupt".

I booted from an archiso stick, mounted my partitions, chrooted, and reinstalled the kernel with "pacman -Syyu linux" but the problem persisted. I then ran fsck on the boot partition. Now I am getting a different error while starting the kernel (I believe):
"Initramfs unpacking failed: invalid magic at start of compressed archive"

I believe it is probably best to just reformat my boot partition after backing up my bootloader entries and then recreating it? Can someone confirm that I can do this? What steps are necessary?

If I remember correctly from the installation I'll have to recreate the fat partition, install systemd-boot, create the loader entries and then I'll just reinstall the kernel using "pacman -Syyu"?

In the meantime, I have tried setting compression to cat in mkinitcpio.conf and then reinstalling Linux, and I have also tried installing the linux-lts kernel (also uncompressed), same error.

I have also tried downgrading mkinitcpio which was upgraded with the last update. Did not change anything

Re: Intel-ucode damaged after recent update

Finally! I am posting from my own system again! I have removed the /intel-ucode.img from the bootloader. I am not sure what caused it to break, I did not change my system in any way (except for the update). I will see if I can still boot after rebuilding the linux kernel with the upgraded mkinitcpio, and then I will start researching the ucode thingy.
