[SOLVED] No sound using A2DP Bluetooth audio. HSP/HFP works.

Hello Everybody,

I've recently switched from Windows to Arch and want to use my Bluetooth Headphones. I installed KDE Plasma with Wayland, Pipewire and the drivers for my Bluetooth dongle. Connecting to the Headset works and I even hear audio using  HSP/HFP. Only A2DP does not work and I don't want to compromise with the abhorrent HSP/HFP audio.

I tried editing .config/pipewire/media-session.d/bluez-monitor.conf to switch to a different codecs than aac but that just disables the A2DP option.
I also got it to work for a while after I locked the display and went away for some food. After I came back it worked till I reconnected the headphones and the sound was not there anymore.

Can you guys please help me troubleshoot? Thank you

Known problem with the current bluez version, downgrade that to 5.58 or upgrade to bluez-git and remove /var/lib/bluetooth before re-pairing

Bluez 5.58 does not seem to work (I can't connect to any devices) and bluez-git has the same issue.

I think it is lilkely that you didn't restart your computer after installing bluez-git or didn't remove /var/lib/bluetooth before pairing.

Just to update, I have had the same problem, in this case with a JBL TUNE230NC TWS earbuds, no sound with A2DP and crappy audio with HSP/HFP.
Downgrading bluez to 5.58-1 from 5.66-1 solved it.

Many thanks

Re: [SOLVED] No sound using A2DP Bluetooth audio. HSP/HFP works.

Don't necrobump 4 year old solved threads, chances that the issue is the same are incredibly slim and you probably don't want to follow suggestions from a thread this old. BT in general is a fickle protocol, current iterations of this issue are a kernel bug that "should" be fixed if you are up to date on 6.15.7 AFAIK, anyway this thread is the wrong avenue to dig up.

Closing.
