Artifact w/ gnome's aero-snap transition effect

I have the similar problem as described here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=265374
In this thread one who was asking for help marked it as a solved with this fix: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/- … uests/1826
Now, my problem is that i don't understand how to apply it.
Where to add "last_presentation_time_us == 0"?

Re: Artifact w/ gnome's aero-snap transition effect

You may have similar symptoms, but not the same problem, and the previous solution is definitely not relevant as it was merged into mutter two years ago.  Unless you are using a very old version of mutter, you already have that fix.

So go back to the start and describe your problem.

Re: Artifact w/ gnome's aero-snap transition effect

Ok, thank you foe explanation. My problem is that windows (just gtk4 apps) stutter and there are big artifacts too when i drag or resize them. Overall Gnome shell stutters too, but not always, only when some specific apps are opened like Nautilus.
I have all the latest packages (linux-zen kernel, nvidia drivers, etc) Very strange problem. I've tested wayland and stuttering still ocured, but artifact no.
Sory for bad English. sad

Re: Artifact w/ gnome's aero-snap transition effect

Is this still a problem after adding "nvidia_drm.modeset=1" to the kernel commandline?
Are you using GDM? Both logs are for display :1, what's running on :0?

Re: Artifact w/ gnome's aero-snap transition effect

That log is dated.

Start by removin all xf86-video-* packages (notably the vesa one) and the not using the zen kernel, but the normal one.
What do the artifacts look like?
Do they occur for the problematic clients in eg. an openbox session?

And please post your complete system journal for the boot:

sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'f:1=<-' ix.io

There's no direct problem indication in the X11 logs.

Re: Artifact w/ gnome's aero-snap transition effect

Artifacts are only visible in a gnome session, and they look like parts of window that is resized. A few days ago I installed xfce and there are no problems, so I think there is some connection between gnome and the nvidia driver.

Sorry but, i dont want to post it online. There are a lot of sensitive data.

Re: Artifact w/ gnome's aero-snap transition effect

There's not supposed to be anything sensitive in that journal.

What GTK theme do you use?
Arc?

No:

Gtk3 apps work fine. There is a problem with gtk4 apps.

I removed xf86-video-vesa, but the problem still occur. Tried main kernel too, but same...

Re: Artifact w/ gnome's aero-snap transition effect

adw-gtk3

Doesn't look like it's the regular adwaita either?
Try the behavior w/ that and comment on whether your artifacts look somewhat like the ones in the thread I linked.

Re: Artifact w/ gnome's aero-snap transition effect

The artifacts do not look like anything in that thread. They look like a glitch in video game, and only are visible for about half a second, but they are very anoying.

Perhaps it is better to describe it as corruption.

Re: Artifact w/ gnome's aero-snap transition effect

Perhaps it would be best if you could share a screen recording.

Ok, I was thinking the same. Do you know any platform online where I can upload recording and then paste the link here?

Re: Artifact w/ gnome's aero-snap transition effect

Gtk3 apps are not rendered using the GPU, while gtk4 apps are. I thought this might be useful information since the corruption only happens on gtk4.

Re: Artifact w/ gnome's aero-snap transition effect

Is this strictly limited to the aero-snap like effect (or generally maximization)?
It looks like the compositor crossfades between the previous and new window size and the resized window it uses for the transition is some invalid texture.

Does it happen with a fresh user account (ie. the default system configuration)?
Also

gnome-extensions list --enabled

Edit: actually try

killall nautilus
GSK_RENDERER=cairo nautilus

I could see a "bug" where mutter naively assumes that the window resizes in real time, but the nvidia driver can be notoriously slow when resizing certainl GL contexts (QML at least used to suffer from similar issues)

Yes, it is strictly limited to the aero-snap like effect.

Still the same... Idk, but cairo renderer doesn't change the thing at all.

Yes.
