ok, i'm not used to making "workstation" linux boxes, so this is kinda new to me.
i have a sb live! card in my box, and i installed into the kernel as a module. i found the emu10k1.o module, and i've got it to work once, but i don't remember how i did it. do i need to add it to a modules.conf file or something?
also read above again for reasons... anybody have any luck with installing the drivers for a geForce (specifically, geForce 4 4400)? this doesn't work when i try to build it and install it. it just gives me a black screen or a black screen with different colored bars and lines on the screen. i have to ctrl+alt+bkspc out of it. any clues here? maybe i'm not installing it completely.
thanks, jason

- sblive with alsa or oss?
- get both the kernel and the glx drivers, install both, edit xf86config and uncomment the glx, rename nv to nvidia in the driver part and startx!
(load the nvidia kernel module every boot)
that should be all to have your geforcecard up and running.

i'm thinkin i should do alsa, i've heard that's the "Better" type.

alsa has full-duplex and surround capabilities, both of which oss/free lack.
There are a lot of good howto's on how to install alsa with a sblive!
apt-get install arch

Actually the oss drivers from opensource.creative.com do do full duplex and surround. Not to mention that they work with my audigy and don't cause the lockups alsa does.
