I re-created my .Xauthority

touch ~/.Xauthority

0600 is the expected permissions, do you still get the "Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 key"?
What does "xauth -v list" report now?
The suggestion is actually to just delete it (and have SDDM recreate it)

Well... I deleted the old .Xauthority, logged off (did not reboot) and logged in.
SDDM did not create a new .Xauthority.

xauth:  file /home/ralvez/.Xauthority does not exist

LOL. I have no idea why. It happened after I did the log-off, log-on

and xrandr -q on display 0 says :"Can't open display :0"

I'm not sure what is going on but I'm not running wayland.
Also, last night I turned off my system (usually I suspend it) and today when I rebooted I had a black screen.
Then I pressed Ctrl+Alt+F2 and it went to another terminal and my session was there.
That is to say that something changed with deleting Xauthority and re-creating it because of what we are now seeing.

NOTE: As I understand, wayland and Nvidia cards do not play nice

My gut feeling is that you've somehow multiple session-starting mechanisms in parallel…

Don't tr to copy&paste out of the pager, redirect the output into a file in doubt.

However, you're indeed running a SDDM session on tty2, however, it's also session #4
Check/post the system journal for the other sessions, if you didn't log in multiple times on this boot, they might be SDDM restarts (in which case see the SDDM wiki link about early KMS)

Well ... I added modules(nvidia nvidia_drm ...) as suggested for early loading nvidia and rebuilt initramfc.
It works in so far that I do not get a blank screen on start up and then have to use Ctrl+Alt+F2 to go to TTY2 where SDDM is running. However, when I do something like xrandr I get the old

The session status shows alacritty running bash in an i3 session - is that where you try to run xrandr/xhost?
Can you run a second alacritty instance from there?

The most commoon cause for this is a transient hostname, resulting in a hostname change after the X11 server started.
But this isn't the case
