Arch installation not working. Please help

Hello,

So, I have been trying to install arch Linux on my new PC and I have been having lots of trouble. So, I would click arch installation medium, it would run through like normal until “[***] startup job running for network configuration” appears. It varies every few seconds. After 7 or so lines of “start up job running for” arch would just crash and boot me back to windows. Most of the startup jobs say something network related. I’ve tried Ubuntu as well and it also crashed a few minutes after booting. I’ve turned off secure boot, fast boot, I’ve turned off TPM and I’ve updated my bios. I’ve checked the Linux hardware website and found that my motherboard was compatible with Ubuntu, however, it still crashed. Even if Ubuntu worked I would still prefer arch (that is why I am posting). The issue has to be my hardware because I tried booting into arch from the usb onto another computer and it worked completely fine. I think it’s just my motherboard specifically because I’ve seen some posts where people with the same motherboard as me are able to boot into various linux distros.

My hardware is below.
- Gigabyte B550M ds3h AC rev. 1.4 motherboard
- Asus RTX 3060 Dual OC
- AMD Ryzen 5 5600
- 16 GB RAM

Any help would be appreciated

UPDATE: So, ive tested multiple distros, Arch, Arco, Ubuntu, Fedora and Manjaro and each of them dont work. Does anyone know what i can do? On linux hardware it says my motherboard is compatible with 2 of those distros there however it doesnt work. Each Distro crashes after a while.
P.S I flashed the arch iso onto the usb using balenaEtcher

Re: Arch installation not working. Please help

First thing you should try is pressing 'e' on the Archlinux entry and adding

nomodeset

to the end of that line to bypass nouveau that might lead to a crash with the graphics card.

If that didn't work, balenaEtcher is somewhat notorious for not properly flashing ISOs, use one of the reccommended tools from https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/USB_fl … ion_medium and/or try a different stick.

Okay, thank you, I will try other programs like Rufus.. By the way, when I type nomodeset and press f10 it says I need to launch the kernel first.

I’ve used Rufus, it didn’t work and crashed at the same place (start up job running for something network related) I typed nomodeset and it says no command found, some commands say the kernel needs to be loaded first so not all commands would work for me. By the way, it usually crashes when it says this “a startup job is running for wait for network to be configured” Please help.

Re: Arch installation not working. Please help

Not sure where you're running those. nomodeset belongs at the end of the line you get by pressing e assuming systemd-boot/an UEFI based startup: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel … stemd-boot make sure you are actually booting the stick in UEFI mode it will be denoted in the boot options as [UEFI] Sandisk or similar, whatever the model of the stick is.

Oh okay, I accidentally put it in the wrong spot. I will try again, but I also think the error is to due with network drivers.

I just tried putting nomodeset at the end of the line and it didn’t work, it still says invalid file name ‘nomodeset’ and I’m booting the stick in uefi mode

Re: Arch installation not working. Please help

that makes no sense, you are not executing a binary, but you're amending the already existing line by an additional kernel parameter, please link to a screenshot/phone picture of where exactly you are adding nomodeset

Re: Arch installation not working. Please help

Would it be okay if I send it to you tomorrow? I’ve turned off my computer and I’m going to sleep soon. Sorry. Also, do you know one to fix my network drivers? The crash always occurs when start up job running for network configuration appears

Re: Arch installation not working. Please help

Okay. This is a recording of the crash (before adding nomodeset), https://www.veed.io/view/f2854689-35d2- … anel=share

This is a photo of where I put nomodeset https://ibb.co/2hccdfy

By the way, I’m going to go sleep now. Thank you for the help you have given so far. I will read the new posts tomorrow and try applying the solutions. Goodnight

Re: Arch installation not working. Please help

Put it in the line that starts with "linux", i.e. one line higher up.

I tried that and it said I need to load the kernel first.

By the way, it’s not only arch which isn’t working for me. Fedora, Ubuntu, arco, manjaro all don’t work too

Tried another arch based distro and it also crashes at a startup job running for —- again. Arch, arco and garuda all crash at that line

No, it didn't.
Show where and how you put this.

Anyway, a spontanous reboot happens because
1. bad RAM
2. bad CPU
3. underpowered system

Ryzen is notorious for this, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Ryzen#Troubleshooting (see the BIOS settings and limit the cstate, "processor.max_cstate=1"  works the same way as "nomodeset", so you'll have to sort out how to use grub for that.
Otherwise you'll have to run https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Stress … MemTest86+
A meaningful test takes *days*, but at least run it overnight.

Do not do that.   If anything, provide more relevant information -- more observations, tell us what you have learned, what you have read.  Demonstrate you have initiative.

And, while you are at it, edit your first post and fix your title by removing the redundant, pathetic plea for assistance.
