radeon driver always at 848x480

Whenever I use the radeon driver in Xorg it seems to default to 848x480.  The config file has the only sizes listed as 1400x1050.  It works fine if I use the fglrx driver, however I'd like to try beryl out, and I guess fglrx doesn't work with AIGLX yet.

The card I am using is an ATI FireGL M24 on a Thinkpad T43p.

The Xorg drive may not be capable of that high resolution. Have you tried a lower one? 1280x960 maybe?

The LCD's native resolution is 1400x1050... :-/  I'll try it out.

Nope, that resolution didn't work either.

Re: radeon driver always at 848x480

I use 1400X1050 with the fglrx driver, and switching to the ati-radeon driver with beryl was no problem (except for the video quality in xv being bad)
But I'm currently not on that machine so I can't post my Xorg.conf file, sorry wink
I have an 9600 pro

I have the exact problem on a Dell D610 with Radeon Mobility X300 (M22).  No matter what I do resolution ends up being 848x480...

I also want to try Beryl on this laptop smile

Hmmm, to answer my own question (and yours):

I don't think 3D acceleration is supported on my ATI. From http://dri.freedesktop.org/wiki/ATIRadeon:

(II) RADEON(0): Render acceleration unsupported on R300 type cards and newer.

My card is a RV370, yours a RV380.  Basically, no Beryl for us...
