Audio suddenly ceases to work in Chromium only [SOLVED]

All normal system sounds work as usual.  Other apps (VLC, Firefox, etc) audio works fine.  This seems to be exclusive to chromium.

I am using pipewire-pulse

chromium playback was turned off somehow...  that solved it
