[SOLVED] Steam no longer starting??

Hello!

This just recently started happening and I need some help figuring out what's gone wrong. Whenever I try and launch steam, the usual box loading the required components appears on the screen and then...nothing. As you know, its supposed to open the GUI, but I don't get anything.

I tried running steam through a terminal to see if it could generate any clues for me to follow:

Next I tried resetting steam entirely: steam --reset did not work.

Now, I've tried to purge it and start from scratch.

rm -rf ~/.local/share/Steam
rm -rf ~/.steam*
sudo -Rncs steam
sudo pacman -S steam

I thought this would do it, but same issue. It isn't opening!!

Now I thought that maybe Arch updated and broke some vital component to Steam, so I tried downgrading to see if there was any different behavior. Nothing as usual.

Why isn't it opening!? What do I need to do???

EDIT: The error spawned a .dmp file but I'm not sure how to read it. Should I upload it here?

EDIT: I've tried replicating this on my laptop but Steam works flawless there and it also runs Arch!

EDIT: Here's what it gave me when I tried deleting those directories mentioned above, to trigger steam to reset itself as it should:

Okay, so I did that and it worked for my desktop and it fixed it. But now I'd like to know why it worked flawlessly on my laptop. No lib32-libnm or anything, it just...worked.

The documented bug does not affect all systems. There are any number of variables that could be relevant. Top among them in my admittedly naive view is that it is not at all surprising that different hardware would respond differently to an issue related to library designed to handle / enumerate connected hardware.

There are so many possible / plausible reasons that it's not at all surprising that it would affect one machine and not the other, so identifying precisely which reason is explains your case does seem all that interesting of a question.

Hmm, I wonder if an update to steam broke something then. Does Valve have changelogs that I can read? I am quite obsessed with stuff that I cannot reproduce elsewhere on other systems running Arch in my household.
