[Solved] Root password

Hello. During the installation i used the "archinstall" scritpt. I didn't create a root password. I have one "normal" user with sudo privilege, and one "admin" user as with administrator privilege.

somtimes im prompted to a password and neither the sudo for my "normal" user or the admin password is working, i assume this is suppose to be the root password? Either way, is there a way to create a root password?

Re: [Solved] Root password

sudo passwd root

And work through the installation guide in the wiki, at least pretend to install the system so you learn some minimal basics.
You should (yes I said it) not be asking such questions.

Edit: in case the root account is locked (I've no idea how that install script breaks your system),

passwd --help

archinstall is in the official distro. it's not that it has broken the system. it gives a choice not to setup a root password.
I thought newbie corner was exactly the place for questions like this. but ok, my bad. smile

Re: [Solved] Root password

The archinstall script is (was?) officially not meant to be used by end users to install archlinux.
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Archinstall
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 1#p1965851 - though idk where Alad got that from, doesn't seem on the archinstall homepage nor github, maybe some internal discussion.

Either way, you're in no condition to use archlinux as long as you struggle w/ the fundamentals, working yourself through the install guide is meant as a learning opportunity to your benefit.

Also please always remember to mark resolved threads by editing your initial posts subject - so others will know that there's no task left, but maybe a solution to find.
Thanks.
