[SOLVED] Apps crashing and then system freezing on 6.4.x kernel
After I update kernel to 6.4.x, the apps crash randomly and then the whole system freezes. Since SysRq has no effect, I guess it is kernel panic.

Thanks for your reply! In my case, I'm still able to ssh into my system while it's frozen. And I can see the memory usage and it's fine.

That's great, because then you can post your complete system journal for the boot from there 
sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'f:1=<-' ix.ioMemory usage *after* this happened is irrelevant, the OOM killer has probably stepped in and nuked the most offending process.
The relevant condition is right before/while this is happenening.
If you run
sudo systemctl restart graphical.targetdoes the system "unfreeze"?

I tried to enable systemd-oomd, but nothing changed.
Once the system freezed, not only ssh, but even sysrq went unavailable.

Linus seems to be aware according to https://lore.kernel.org/all/b57f35f9-53 … dia.com/T/. I'm not sure where this is at currently, though.
The commit is contained in the current 6.5 series so if someone wants to check whether the problem still occurs there, you'll need to build from git.

According to the thread chromium crashpad triggering the GUP SE warning is normal and expected, but that doesn't explain "the whole system freezes. Since SysRq has no effect, I guess it is kernel panic."
Though for elaiolado only the GPU stack seems to go down?
The kernel warning might be a red herring and the main problem is caused by whatever crashed chromium itfp

Thanks for the reply. Last week I was doing an experiment. I spent the entire week working without an external monitor again, and had no freeze. I'll put my external monitor back and wait. If it freezes, I'd say it's quite a strong evidence of a relation between using an external monitor and experiencing the freeze. And I'll run those commands you suggested. I'd appreciate any other debugging lines I could run.
