KDE de

Hello,

I have decided the time has come to go and give Arch a try. I want to have as much minimalistic and lightweight OS as possible. I have been using manjaro with KDE Plasma and having done some real work on a terminal recently I am not that confident to go on without a DE.

My question is, after I successfully load the Arch, can I  install KDE Plasma but with the features and packages of my choice? For example I know I will need dolphin for sure, but I will not need any of the K software like KWrite, KCalc, Konsole etc. So is it possible to get just the DE itself (taskbar, windows manager etc.) without any of the unnecessary stuff that comes with KDE Plasma in manjaro?

Re: KDE de

Yes. Don't install the entirety of a package group but pick the components you need. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/KDE#Plasma

Re: KDE de

Thanks!

Where can I see what packages come with Arch Linux? The fresh installation.

Re: KDE de

If you do a manual install very little - basically only the deps of base are required/assumed and basically everything else is up to you. If you're intending to use archinstall - I strongly suggest you don't, as it will deprive you from necessary learning to successfully maintain an Arch install - actually also quite sensible defaults that don't pull in the kitchen sink
