Brigthness changes automatically

Good morning,

since a couple of days I am experiencing the weird behavior, that my monitors change brightness automatically.

I have observed 2 situations so far:
1)
  - system is completely off and powered down
  - starting the system
  - from POST to GRUB up to SDDM everything is fine
  - now in SDDM one of my monitors is pretty dark, mostly the second one

2)
  - system is running and I go away, the system locks itself, monitors were running fine
  - come back and wake up the monitors, one of the both screens is now barely visible, like next to 0% brightness

On thursday I checked the brightness setting on my monitors, to verify I am not going insane.
Now, I did not get insane, my monitors suddenly changed their brightness to 0% and 30%.
After initial setup I never touched the brightness, so this has to be software related and would fit,
because this issue started to appear after a classic "pacman -Syu" update several days ago.

Problem: what, how and why?
I never configured the brightness through a program, so I went looking for a tool.
Found brightnessctl, but that one does not see my monitors, even if run as root.
KDE does not seem to have a slider for brightness or I am too blind to find it.
So maybe another API is the culprit, but don't know where to start for searching

Any suggestions?

System:
- 3700X
- 6700XT
- Arch with Mesa and included driver
- 1 x AOC 24G2W1G8 through DP and 1 X Eizo FS2333 through HDMI

Re: Brigthness changes automatically

I am also experiencing this problem after a recent update to `nvidia 535.86.05-2` and `linux-zen 6.4.4.zen1-1`. Both monitors automatically get changed to brightness of 4 a few minutes after i attempt to change it back. This makes one monitor far to dim to see.

I have an NVIDIA RTX 3060

Re: Brigthness changes automatically

I think I figured it out (at least a workaround). I went to the power management settings in KDE and disabled "Dim screen after..." and now it's back to normal. I don't remember this option being available previously on this computer (and if it was it certainly was never enabled or working). But I turned it off and all is good now.
