The problem started around a week ago. There was a linux update including a firmware update and some other applications. After I did that, I noticed that certain applications would take a really long time to load - firefox, thunar and pulse audio volume control are three of them. Other applications like datagrip, spotify or slack would load immediately without an issue. Datagrip is a java application, spotify and slack are (I think?) electron apps - maybe that is why those applications do work.
I did some basic troubleshooting first - updated the system again, checked any updated packages, etc. Nothing helped here. At that point, I was a bit lost as I never had such a problem before. I even tried to downgrade the linux-firmware package as I suspected it was borked for me, but that did not do anything either.
Now, another problem I currently have is that my WiFi seems to turn off once my laptop goes into sleep (closing the lid). The problem started around the same time - I'm not sure if those could be related or it's just pure accident. I've seen a lot of errors regarding EAGAIN in the strace log - could be a cause.
I'm using the framework model 13, pre-built - there is it's own wiki page: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Framework_Laptop_13. I'm running the latest stock kernel and i3-gaps as window manager.
Some logs:
dmesg: http://ix.io/4Bwr
The last couple of strace lines (command used was strace -o thunar-log.txt thunar): http://ix.io/4Bws
If you need any other logs, please let me now.

Jesus christ that actually was it. I don't even know what to say. Neither do I know how you just figured that out without actually reading the post.
Thanks.

"Most of it" and I took an educated guess.
The problem came up several times since gnome had their xdg-portal implementation break other sessions w/ the v44 update and I saw enough words from your post to figure "yeah, probably just that"
