my installation has become inaccessible

This may be some kind of hardware issue, I don't know.  But I am posting here because it came up on my laptop which has Arch installed.

The issue is that a few days ago my installation became inaccessible.  I had shut down the laptop earlier and  the next time I turned it on, I got a screen that said, "No Bootable Device".

My first thought was that something was wrong with the SSD.  The SSD in the computer was one I installed to upgrade to a larger SSD.  So I reinstalled the original SSD, but still got the "No Bootable Device" screen.

I then accessed the computer using my Arch ISO usb stick, which booted without any problem.  I then ran lsblk and the only device it displayed was the usb stick.  I don't know why the SSD isn't detected and I really have no idea how to troubleshoot this further.  Any ideas?

The computer is an Acer Aspire 5 (A515-54-76NA) with a 10th generation I7 processor.  The SSD is an M2 format with 512GB.

Re: my installation has become inaccessible

some kind of hardware issue

Notebook, so not a cable, multiple devices so it's the slot or the bus.
Ensure everything is properly seated and neither under tension nor loose.

Then a completely powering down the system for a cold (and then warm) reboot to see whether the drive responds and ultimately a UEFI/BIOS reset/update is your last best hope
If you disconnected the slot from the board, you'll have to resolder it - or likely have that done (or replaced)

Re: my installation has become inaccessible

Thanks for your reply, though it doesn't help me.  But that's not YOUR fault.  You said, "so it's the slot or the bus".  Though I couldn't have articulated that, that's what I suspected and is something I'm not equipped to handle.  I think I'm just SOL.  But I just ordered a USB M2 SSD "enclosure" that will hopefully allow me to connect my 1TB SSD to the laptop with a USB connection.  That's not an optimal solution, but at least (if it works) I'll still have use of the computer.

Thanks again for your reply.
