Geeqie 2.1-1 fails to view webp images

It shows an error icon with red X and in terminal is printed

Error reading GIF file: Unrecognized image file format

when a webp file is selected.

Happens. Isolating the first frame leads to a webp that geeqie can display.

I can confirm:

$ magick -size 128x128 xc:green image.webp
$ file image.webp
image.webp: RIFF (little-endian) data, Web/P image, VP8 encoding, 128x128, Scaling: [none]x[none], YUV color, decoders should clamp
$ geeqie image.webp
Error reading GIF file: Unrecognized image file format

After installing webp-pixbuf-loader no error message neither red X but image is not displayed properly.

Rebuilt webp-pixbuf-loader with this patch.
Now black rectangle is displayed instead of static image.
Animated image posted above is displayed correctly except first frame.
