[SOLVED] videos not playing without xdg-desktop-portal-gnome

I've done a fresh installation with cinnamon. a few months ago
After one update (pamcan -Syu) I started having this problem

After that update I noticed that some programs (firefox, gnome-calculator, gnome-screenshot) started to take quite longer than usual to start (around 30 seconds)

Since the problem started with an update I expected other updates to fix it (thinking that may be something had been "broken" in that update and going the be fixed in the following ones)

After a month of weekly updates the problem persisted.
I searched for a solution in the forums and found a very similar thread. But the solution in that thread was to uninstall the package xdg-desktop-portal-gnome, which i DID have installed and it removing it DOES fix the problem. But when I remove it, youtube videos stop playing (tried with firefox and chrome)

I also tried reading the wiki for audio and video codecs. Uninstalled and installed codecs and video players several times and tried different combinations with different results. But i'm back at the beginning.

I found a soultion in another thread, running:

systemctl --user mask wireplumber --now

Do you have any other portal implementation (eg. xdg-desktop-portal-gtk) around?

Yes, I have:
- xdg-desktop-portal
- xdg-desktop-portal-gtk
- xdg-desktop-portal-xapp

In any case, the solution I mentioned in my previous comment seems to have worked succesfully

That is by no means a fix - regardless of whether you intend to use wireplumber, the symptoms and workaround suggest there's a more general problem w/ the setup.

I actually didn't understand the nature of the solution, it just left things in a "nice balance"

There's actually no problem with that.
Unmask wireplumber, run

sudo journalctl -f | tee /tmp/journal.txt

and in another terminal try to play a video.
Post the resulting /tmp/journal.txt
