Whenever this shows up (it happens occasionally), following happens.

  • On power off/reboot all services that are to be stopped after generate-shutdown-ramfs take a lot of time(~30mins).

  • Kitty/other applications won't close until killed.

"-p err" isn't very helpful, esp. not wrt the ludicrous  shutdown delays.
All this says is that apparently pretty early on the iwlwifi firmware crashes and this might or not be the direct cause for a nullptr deref in the kernelspace.

Please post your complete system journal for the boot: 

sudo journalctl -b -1 | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st

and on a limb, see the 3rd link below. Mandatory.
Disable it (it's NOT the BIOS setting!) and reboot windows and linux twice for voodo reasons.

Turned off fast start from inside windows.
From bios it is already turned off.

This doesn't happen on every boot.
So, here are the logs of last boot with the problem.

You've  NetworkManager  and systemd-networkd enabled, pick one, disable the other.
The crash is far away from NM changing the MAC for a scan, so if it's not the service collision my money is for now on windows hibernating (the BIOS setting is irrelevant to this, btw)
Have you already experienced this after disabling windows "fast start" (and rebooted windows and linux twice, at least anecdotally that's required to unfuck the acpi)?

I don't see how this relates to 30 minute power-off - or where that is:

Well it doesn't happens always(~30mins to power off).
But whenever it happens I force shutdown

But today I let it go for a while untill it reached the end. But even after that it wasn't shutting down.

Now I've checked the time from generate-shutdown-ramfs to the end of last 15 boots. It is still 1-3 secs.

That's weird.


No experience after disabling fast start and rebooting twice windows and linux yet (3 boots).
Disabled systemd-networkd.service
When this all started happening the wifi won't connect on boot neither LAN. This explains why. But still both started from once.

Never hibernated windows.
Linux hibernated once but that was ~month ago.

It was the 10th one where I waited (~30 mins for poweroff)

The system might have shut down fine, but the ACPI call to power it off/reboot failed. Would fit the hibernating windows condition as well.

Oh the S1 S2 S3 S4 sleep stuff.

I use ghost spectre version of windows which doesn't update (until 2077).

I'd say, give it a week and if the problem doesn't return, blame windows and mark the thread as solved wink

Yeah, I'll see if anything happens and then mark as solved.

I already say that, "Windows is shit". I'll have one more reason to say that.
I only have it for gaming.

Yup it showed up again.

But shutdown time was normal.

I think the shutdown time was due to windows hibernation.
And iwlwifi errors are due to something else.

But, the abnormal poweroff time occured again.
This time I think it was due to restarting as soon as I login.

I gave it about 3 mins to stop jobs and then force shutdown.
This time the logs reflect those minutes.

Try

export NO_AT_BRIDGE=1

in your wrapper.

This is the second time this happening after tweaking the wrapper.
Force shutdown for 1st time. (Everething was freezed)
Stop jobs were running 2nd time to poweroff.

Everytime poweroff time thing happens following stop jobs are seen at start.

  1. Authorization Manager

  2. Hostname Service

  3. User Login Management

  4. User Manager for UID 1000

  5. Bluetooth Service

  6. Asus Notebook Control

Maybe its just nvidia-open-dkms. Didn't update yesterday. (Last update had nvidia-open-dkms was 11/08)
I'll check if it happens after the update.

No. the former will prevent gtk from starting screenreaders and other a11y stuff, but the error is from the nvidia kernel module. This things are vastly unrelated.

Maybe its just nvidia-open-dkms

It was due to nvidia-open-dkms.

10 days now after disabling windows hibernation.
No poweroff issues since then.

I don't really need wifi right now and only causes problem sometimes which works after a reboot.
And I will reseat the wifi chip later when cleaning the fans.
So I'm marking this as solved.
