After updating Aug 5 I found that thunar was unable to mount my flash partitions for /dev/mmcblk0. It was able to see the partitions, but could not mount mentioning a permission problem.
Thunar itself was not updated the fuill update looked as shown below; is there someway to refine the update that causes the issue? I think suspects are linux, systemd*, polkit or perhaps intel-media-sdk.
Reversing the update to July 31 makes the automounts happen as expected.
Edit: I tested my suspects and it seems the problem might be in one of these systemd-sysvcompat systemd-libs systemd. I have updated linux, polkit and intel-media-sdk and the automount is happening OK

I tried various things to figure out what is wrong in systemd-254 wrt thunar automounting. The strace output from a running thunar is very different and I could not see anything obvious.
The journalctl output on insertion seems to indicate that the partitions are never mounted instead I see some xfce service being started in both, but 254 fails mounting the partitions.
253 works

In 254 I see the partitions, but they are not mounted and clicking on them gives a permission error (probably because the devices are present, but not mounted).
Any thing obvious to fix this issue? seems to me systemd has changed something.

After searching high and low I find that systemd 254 has changed policy regarding mount permissions.
Previously my flash drives could just be inserted and thunar noticed them and was able to mount the partitions.
If I upgrade to systemd 254 I find that I am forced to run an authentication agent (the need for this is mentioned in https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Polkit
I used xfce-polkit and it asks at least once, In systemd 253 I don't need to run this extra software.
It seems a bit strange to me that a flash drive requires a user to know the root password; I can obviously always move such a drive to a mchine where I have full control so nothing is gained by requiring root access.
Is there a way to configure the systemd so I don't need this additional agent for portable drives?
