Firefox is extremly slow to start when flatpak is installed.

When I have Flatpak installed and try to start Firefox it can take more than 30 seconds to start, when I uninstall Flatpak it takes around 2 or 3 seconds to start, Firefox itself isn't slow, after starting everything works normally when Flatpak is installed and when it's not.

Install flatpak again, and paste the output of 'flatpak-list' in code tags.

Re: Firefox is extremly slow to start when flatpak is installed.

Just in case someone else stumbles across this. In my case the issue was that flatpak installed VA-API as a dependency without the necessary VA-API package being installed on my system. See https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Hardwa … celeration for details.

Re: Firefox is extremly slow to start when flatpak is installed.

Wasn‘t the main selling point for bloatpacks, that they come with everything included? Just wondering …

Re: Firefox is extremly slow to start when flatpak is installed.

The original problem (afaiu the OP didn't install FF as flatschpak, they just installed flatschpak) is likely the very common "xdg-desktop-portal-gnome is broken outside gnome" condition, which is *supposed* to be fixed w/ 44.2

Sandroid might have installed the wrong™ flatpak, depending on the fedora runtime or so.
(What pretty much answers the question whether flatschpaks are a solution to anything…)

Re: Firefox is extremly slow to start when flatpak is installed.

I do not have installed Firefox as a flatpak either, but I was wrong about VA-API, it appears to be unrelated. I noticed that the startup of Firefox is only slow for the first time after boot. @seth is right about xdg-desktop-portal. In my case xdg-desktop-portal-wlr did not start automatically, which caused the issue. This fixed it: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/XDG_De … ly_on_sway
