arch installation cd improvements

There are some things that I would like to have on the arch installation cd..

1. Be able to install from a external usb cd drive.. (there is a wiki on howto do this by creating your own arch install cd.. but I think that the original arch install cd should support it.)

2. the cd should have links installed, or any text based webbrowser. this is neccessary for me when i need to install arch in the uni, I need to be able to log in through a website to have access to the net. Might be useful for other things as well

3. I dont know if this works, but I would like to have ndiswrapper installed as well, my wifi card is not supported by native driver..

4. I cant remember but I think that there was no fsck file system repair for reiserfs 3.6.. but I am not sure.

Any If anyone else have any other improvements they would like to see on the arch install cd, please post here, maybe they can be implemented on the next arch cd.

For the most up-to-date install cd's : http://www.archlinux.org/~tpowa/newisos/

This often fails because of how the bios handles USB drives on boot, so it will likely stay  aproblem for a long time.

That's why there is an iso for installing base from cd.
If it were a rescue cd, i agree a browser should be included.

Difficult to maintain, as ndiswrapper needs .inf files and there are a lot of them ...

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

Re: arch installation cd improvements

thanks for the info,

here is my idea with fixing some of the issues you said

1. the usb cd.. if the modules where to be compiled into the kernel it wouldnt be a problem. Then it would work to install from usbcd. Since the problem is that you can boot into the arch install cd, but not load any modules, ie the cdrom module..

2. with ndiswrapper, the inf file is no problem, everybody should be able to maintain their own inf file, having it on a seperate partition beforehand would solve it pretty easy.

3. The arch install cd is also a rescue cd, atleast thats what it says when you boot it.. So links should be included. I wouldnt want to use the gentoo boot cd as rescue cd, that would only archlinux look bad, and just be redundant to have arch install cd and gentoo boot cd..

I will check into the new isos you linked. Thanks alot for your ideas.
