Laptop screen doesn't turn on, iGPU dying?

My laptop is a HP Gaming Pavilion - 15-dk0040nl

Yesterday afternoon my screen locked and turned off because of inactivity, but nothing could make it turn on so I force shut down the laptop. Since then every time I booted the screen would remain off. This morning I retried and after some attempts I got it to finally boot fine.

Looking at the system journal of the incident I found  this:

All of yesterday turned off screen boot logs look very similar:

Is there something I can do to test whether the iGPU is dying? Or something I can do to test whether anything is dying in the laptop?

1. try the LTS kernel res. some live-distro like grml
2. does the angle of the lid matter (how much it's folded open)?
3. is there a parallel windows installation? ("Failed to read DPCD register 0x92" typically shows up along hibernation…)
4. do external monitors still work?

Re: Laptop screen doesn't turn on, iGPU dying?

1. Problem is when the screen doesn't turn on during boot I can't even access the Boot Menu to boot a live usb
2. I don't understand the question, sorry.
3. There is a windows partition but I never used it and I removed the boot stuff from the EFI partition, I keep the partition just in case I would need it someday.
4. I don't have access to any external monitor at the moment so I can't test it unfortunately.

Re: Laptop screen doesn't turn on, iGPU dying?

1. Problem is when the screen doesn't turn on during boot I can't even access the Boot Menu to boot a live usb

Hardware issue for sure then.

2. I don't understand the question, sorry.

It's a notebook and it has a lid and you open that lid in order to see the display.
There's a hinge and the display is on one side of that and most of the rest of the system on the other.
Hence there're some cables connecting the elements that run through that hinge.
Depending on how far the lid is opened a broken cable might still be able to carry the signal in some positions but not in all others, ie. fully opening the display might loose the contact, but opening it only to 80° or so might still allow the cable to work.
