After my last pacman -Syu yesterday I face the following problem. When I try to access system:/media the following error occurs:
KDE mediamanager is not running
Trying to start the Service from Control Center > KDE Components > Service Manager it returns Unable to start service. Does anyone face the same problem? I tried some suggestions found here and there for similar problems but... What should I do? Is there a bug with the latest hal or dbus?

I don't have this problem myself. Can you get any more descriptive error messages? Also, try making a new user and see if the problem still happens with the new user.

Do you have hal & dbus running?
I had this too some time ago...
Try this:
Open a konsole, "killall kded" and restart kded by typing "kded"...
If there are any errors or warning from kded, please post them here.

Nothing of the above worked; but . . .
I found a previous version of dbus; dbus-0.61-3.pkg.tar.gz. I extracted the archive and found the fowling files in the lib directory.
libdbus-1.a
libdbus-1.so
libdbus-1.so.2
libdbus-1.so.2.0.0
libdbus-glib-1.a
libdbus-glib-1.so
libdbus-glib-1.so.2
libdbus-glib-1.so.2.0.0
libdbus-qt-1.a
libdbus-qt-1.so
libdbus-qt-1.so.1
libdbus-qt-1.so.1.0.0
After that I copy pasted those files to the /usr/lib/ directory without overwriting any existing files. After that that the problem was solved.

What did not work? starting kded?
When you start it manually it should print out some descriptive error messages, which are very helpful
So, did kded pull out any error messages about libdbus?
If yes, you may be interested in this bug report...
I solved this by creating a symbolic link for libdbus-1.so.2... But this is, as yours too, not a real solution...

system:/media works here, but since some dbus/hal/whatever update KDE won't see my dvd drive any longer. Only hard disk partitions and my external drive are listed.
