[SOLVED] HDMI and Display Issues with Optimus-Manager (Nitro AN515-45)

I'm experiencing a rather specific issue with my NVIDIA RTX 3060 on an Acer Nitro AN515-45 laptop running Arch Linux and using optimus-manager. I cannot seem to actually use my system the way I would like, there are always downsides to any config I try:
- Integrated Mode: The iGPU works without the dGPU, the laptop display runs at 144Hz, but there's no HDMI output.
- Dedicated Mode: The dGPU works, the laptop display runs at 60Hz, and HDMI output does not work either (but it shows up in Xrandr as "HDMI-0"
- Hybrid Mode: I get 144Hz on the laptop screen and dGPU access, but no HDMI output.

I'm looking for a configuration that allows me to utilize both the iGPU and dGPU, maintain 144Hz on my laptop display, and have HDMI output functioning. Here's what I've tried so far:
- Updating the system and NVIDIA drivers to the latest versions.
- Experimenting with different optimus-manager profiles.

Unfortunately, none of these changes have resolved the issue. I was hoping that someone here might have encountered a similar situation or have insights into what might be causing this behavior.

Has anyone dealt with this before, or does anyone have any suggestions on what I could try next?

If I am missing any sort of information that could be helpful, please let me know!
Thanks in advance for any help!

I'm looking for a configuration that allows me to utilize both the iGPU and dGPU, maintain 144Hz on my laptop display, and have HDMI output functioning.

That would be a reverse prime setup, the default behavior.
Remove optimus-manager and every xorg config you or it might have created, post your Xorg log, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General

What I mean is, I want to be able to use my system at 144Hz just like on Hybrid, not have all apps running on the GPU, and offload, yet still have the ability to use my HDMI.

Re: [SOLVED] HDMI and Display Issues with Optimus-Manager (Nitro AN515-45)

Yes. That is the default behavior.

Edit: in case this is about how you "feel" about having 144Hz, post also the outputs of "xrandr -q" and "loginctl session-status", make sure you're not using some compositor that limits you to the lowest FPS.

That's complete bullshit.
Post journal and xorg log if you want some help on this.

Re: [SOLVED] HDMI and Display Issues with Optimus-Manager (Nitro AN515-45)

That is not bullshit. If I do not have optimus-manager on my laptop I cannot run any program on my GPU. I literally have tried countless times, it doesn't show up in NVIDIA Settings. If I uninstall optimus-manager, how am I meant to actually meant to run programs on the GPU? like offloading. And sure, I will uninstall optimus manager right now, and prove it.

Okay I am sorry. I was always under the impression I needed optimus-manager or a likewise problem to actually use my GPU. I have uninstalled it, yet, HDMI does not work. I have it plugged in rn:

Re: [SOLVED] HDMI and Display Issues with Optimus-Manager (Nitro AN515-45)

optimus-manager is a somewhat dated tool that allowed to switch between GPUs by reconfiguring and restarting the server and is somewhat interesting for older nvidia chips that don't support runtime D3hot, but that's also irrelevant when you want to use an output attached to the nvidia chip anyway. I'm not just saying stuff.

The suggested approach is https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PRIME and there's https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/any/nvidia-prime/ to conveniently invoke the nvidia GPU (though you might have to become more explicit w/ some vulkan applications, but that's irrelevant atm)

The nvidia GPU is present, but doesn't detect any output at the time when the server started.

First of all, enable https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA … de_setting and check whether any edid shows up in /sys/class/drm/card0-*
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/edid-decode-git
(The nvidia GPU showed up as card0 in that log what seems odd, but should™ be no dealbreaker. Do you have the nvidia but not the amdgpu modules in the initramfs?)

Was the HDMI output attached when you booted? Did you re-attach it at any point?
(This might be a mere handshake issue, hdcp is hyper-fragile to prevent you from stealing the lame SFX demos that Hollywood passes off as movies these days…)

Hey sorry Seth for not getting back to you on this, I completely forgot. So I enabled DRM:

# Created by: archinstall
# Created on: 2023-05-28_23-13-32
title Arch Linux (linux)
linux /vmlinuz-linux
initrd /amd-ucode.img
initrd /initramfs-linux.img
options root=PARTUUID=e74d2fe8-b7af-4775-9c1a-6cc4fa26d7be zswap.enabled=0 rw rootfstype=ext4 nvidia_drm.modeset=1

After a reboot, within my /sys/class/drm I have the following:

card0 card0-eDP-1 card1 card1-HDMI-A-1 renderD128 renderD129 version

Under card0-*:

amdgpu_bl0 ddc device dpms drm_dp_aux0 edid enabled i2c-7 modes power	status	subsystem uevent

That looks to me like it's the AMDgpu? And yes, the HDMI was connected on boot, reconnecting after does nothing. As for initramfs, I actually don't see anything nvidia? Other than nvidia-utils

Re: [SOLVED] HDMI and Display Issues with Optimus-Manager (Nitro AN515-45)

The nvidia GPU showed up as card0 in that log what seems odd, but should™ be no dealbreaker.

You also don't have amdgpu in the initramfs, so the order might be random.

edid-decode /sys/class/drm/card1-HDMI-A-1/edid

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/edid-decode-git

Since there're no established condition w/ the HDMI output working: there're no adapters involved and you've tested monitor and cable against a working output?

Re: [SOLVED] HDMI and Display Issues with Optimus-Manager (Nitro AN515-45)

Okay, I feel dumb. So, I know that with Optimus Manager my laptop wasn't working on any moniter. But I haven't tested without it, I have only been testing on one specific monitor. I just checked and now it works on other monitors. Apologies for wasting your time man

Re: [SOLVED] HDMI and Display Issues with Optimus-Manager (Nitro AN515-45)

No problem, please always remember to mark resolved threads by editing your initial posts subject - so others will know that there's no task left, but maybe a solution to find.
Thanks.
