I like KDE. I don't really see why people consider it slow. Yeah, on my laptop it takes about 20 seconds to go from login to everything done loading, but that is mostly because my laptop has a knackered hard drive, which was slow back in it's prime anyway. On my desktop, KDE starts and is ready to use as quickly as Fluxbox is.
And I like KDE's Control Centre, it's nice to have all of it's settings in one easy to get around place, and not a giant text file. I used to be all for super lean machines and being determined to do everything with Vim, but I find these days, I don't have time for that kind of thing.
And I like the way things integrate nicely. I remember I spent about a fortnight trying to get Rox set up so that it'd use the right programs when I double clicked a file. And then trying to persuade other programs to work together was murder as well. And xffm was useless last time I used it.
And I don't like Gnome. I found that, although it was a breeze to use, it never quite did what I wanted, it only mostly fitted my needs.
Having said all that, I wouldn't run KDE on a box that's short on RAM. I also don't really go for the eye candy, I like a simple desktop look. That could be why I don't find KDE slow...

I was until I switched to VTWM (for the virtual desktop).

Then you should check this: http://www.lontronics.nl/index.php?m=0011 ![]()
Virtual desktops and theme management on twm....
I did not switch to vtwm because I do like the idea that twm is available on almost every system with X.
But I suppose vtwm is as fast, stable and easy as twm, so a good choice ![]()
