I wanted to hide (not delete) the 3 desktop icons. I think I can do this by altering one of the kde files, but I don't know which one. Please can someone tell me which file+path I need to alter?

you can turn them off by disabling them in the controlcenter or putting a point at the beginning of the filename should do it, too

Just to be a little more precise:
Kcontrol > Desktop > Behavior > Show Icons on Desktop
/path/to/Truth

The files themselves are text files, FWIW, and you can edit them with your preferred editor.

Thanks! My desktop is now just that bit cleaner. However, it causes Beryl not to work. I'll have to file a bug report with the Beryl Project.
