Re: System freeze while playing over STEAM. GPU not enough?

Sorry, I don't know how to check if TTS is native linux or not.
Looking into Steam->Settings->Compatibility I see that "Enable Steam Play for supported titles" is enabled.
Reading on the wiki, I understand that Steam Play basically installs tools to allow games compatible with windows also on the linux version. So, maybe the TTS is the windows version through proton.
I tried to disable the toggle switch but it does not respond anyhow.

One more thing...thinking backward, when first freezing events occurred, I launched steam from windows, just to be sure it was not freezing: could it cause some problem? I read about the suggestion to keep the same partition...but i think is just for keeping games aligned.
By the way, launching from windows happened just once!

So my qestion now, is...should I uninstall everything (have just 2 games, without anything to save (so i don't care much...) and install ONLY the native/proton versions? Didn't get which one is the most optimal.
My understanding is that proton version installs also wine tools

ADDON: I looked into the installation files of TTS and they are .exe files, as the error message said. Then I am quite sure it is the windows version run through proton

Steam game library does list windows and native linux versions as separate entries so lists them twice.
Does your steam library show 2 occurences for TTS ?

https://www.protondb.com/app/286160#jHJIsFZTNe has some instructions how to choose a different proton version for TTS . Try that.

Hi, sorry for the late reply.

How am I supposed to check the 2 occurrences of TTS? the library contains ONLY one TTS and also going in the Store, it says TTS is in my library. But i don't see any specification for the OS, apart the compatibility icons (win, osx and steam).
I followed the instructions saying how to install proton GE 7.55...I forced this version in TTS->Settings (and NOT Properties)->Compatibility and here I set the slider to "enable steam play for all other titles" which allowed me to choose the new proton library.
Very weird I DO NOT have the same menus as the guys in the link you shared.

Re: System freeze while playing over STEAM. GPU not enough?

Looking at the protondb post it was made by someone using a Steam Deck running valve's SteamOS Holo .
That is probably the reason for the different menus.

I may be wrong about steam showing separate entries for listing native and windows versions of an application, it's based on posts by others.

What is more important is whether TTS works better with proton GE 7.55.
Are there still crashes / freezes with it ?

Unfortunately TTS does not start at all (maybe I forgot to specify), same problem as before.

Re: System freeze while playing over STEAM. GPU not enough?

I'm almost running out of ideas, but not entirely yet.

On what type of drive/partition/filesystem is the Tabletop Simulator folder with Tabletop Simulator.exe located ?

Please create a fresh temporary user and login as it. Do as little configuration as possible, try to run steam & TTS as that user
Does it make a difference ?

Hi,
the steam folder is within my user folder which is in a ext4 partition.
However, I created a new user as per your suggestion and it seemed to work. TTS started with same messages as before except the "cannot execute binary file".
I didn't play, i was a bit in rush, but I will in the next days.

So it seems to be a user-based issue. Is there a way to reset my user profile regarding steam? i.e. just deleting some folder?

Thanks for now. it is much better than switch to windows smile

I will let you know once it is tested with a bit more attention.

yes, but steams folder structure is rather complicated and it's very easy to delete too much (like tons of GiBs of downloaded gamefiles)

Try updating your UEFI/BIOS. I once had random crashes when rendering videos that was fixed by a BIOS update, it might be similar.
