Resolution Keeps Reverting on Restart

Hey all!

I run lxqt/sddm/i3 on Arch. I recently got a new monitor that has a different native resolution than my previous one. I can change the resolution to the new native resolution in the lxqt monitor settings and save it there and that works fine, but when I reboot the system comes back up with the old monitor resolution again and I cannot for the life of me figure out what my be setting this.

Any suggestions on what I can check out would be great. I went through various things on the wiki and haven't found anything yet.

Thanks in advance,
Craig

Re: Resolution Keeps Reverting on Restart

Do you have an xrandr config in https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xrandr#Configuration or your i3 config?
Please post your Xorg log, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General (after the resolution reset)

Re: Resolution Keeps Reverting on Restart

Here's my xorg log immediately after restart; behavior was actually a bit different this time; in SDDM before login my resolution was the old/incorrect resolution; about a second or so after a logged in, it changed to the new/correct resolution. I have no xrandr stuff in my i3 config

Re: Resolution Keeps Reverting on Restart

[ 17.568] (II) NVIDIA(0): Virtual screen size determined to be 3840 x 1080
…
[ 46.441] (II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode "DP-2: 5120x1440 @5120x1440 +0+0 {ViewPortIn=5120x1440, ViewPortOut=5120x1440+0+0}"

3840 x 1080 is "bad" and "5120x1440" is good?
The latter is now likely restored by lxsession.

Enable https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA … de_setting and in doubt add "initcall_blacklist=simpledrm_platform_driver_init" to the https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel_parameters
This (KMS) will rid you of the simpledrm device and expose the monitors EDID

If still necessariy, you can force the SDDM resolution, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xrandr#Configuration or configure it in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d - but first try to just make the system behave on auto-pilot.
