How do I use secondary characters from my keyboard

Hi there. Since I have been using  Linux for a long time, i feel pretty ashamed to ask this question, but I will be grateful to  whoever can help me solving it smile

As you comprehended from the title, I have problems using secondary characters from my keyboards and I have always used Unicodes character for making special characters (ie U ++0040 for making a '@') and since this symbol is present on my keyboard it's pretty annoying using unicode' codes for typing a message. And the worst part is when I want (or must) give my computer to someone that needs my help and he's blocked for this. Yesterday my mother wasn't able to use her computer (WIndows) and had to use mine since sh had an appointment on Zoom, and the registation was very frustating (remember that the email has a form like username@domain.com).

Sorry for my bad english. I am from Italy and my keyboard's imput could differ from yours.

Thanks in advice

Re: How do I use secondary characters from my keyboard

Most printed character on keyboard are printed on screen by either pressing key directly or pressing shift+key or pressing AltGr+key. AltGr is usually right alt key, if it is not printed on keyboard.
However this all may change depending on which keyboard layout you are using from xkeyboard or some other IME like ibus/scim/fcitx. In that case you will need to refer to manual or layout of that keyboard.

Since the basic alphanumeric layout of a typical italian keyboard is just qwerty, you might use the wrong layout?
Assuming this is on X11

setxkbmap -print -query
