...Is that really it?

I know I meant to post about this topic sooner, but I'm rather disappointed in Arch Linux. Not that I'm saying I don't like it of course, because once I figured out how to get everything working (which took probably next to no time at all), I'm learning how to forget to Windows 11.
I mean, this was by no means my FIRST introduction to the Linux world, (that honor goes to Ubuntu), but the reason I use Arch now is probably due to how unhappy I was using Ubuntu in general.

I at first thought that Arch was just some big scary Linux monster that would be too much of a learning curve, but after figuring out how to get yay and access the AUR, it's really not that painful to live with. Sure, it's by no means perfect, as some hardware tends to play a little bit nicer with Arch Linux than others, but I'd much sooner use alternative office suites to Microsoft 365 for productivity and what games work in Steam for when it is time to play a game, (which I've been trying to figure out which ones actually will work out of box or with Proton turned on), than use Microsoft 365 and have to NOT worry about compatibility since the Windows gaming library and DirectX will make it more likely to not think about worrying about a "compatibility library."  True, I do use it on my main computer, my Acer Nitro 5 2022, and it actually runs way better than Windows 11 did.

And of course, playing Solitaire without ads is also another deal-maker for me and Arch Linux (or any other distro for that matter, but then again, does it really matter at this point)? So, I can honestly say that I'll definitely like Arch Linux & find it genuinely nicer to use and a better experience than Windows 11.

Also, I do want to install Arch Linux on a few more systems using the same method I did on the Acer Nitro 5, which will actually cooperate, and avoid certain systems which will definitely break the install somewhere during the initial setup like the absolute plague. (Maybe just use a different distro which is Arch-based, but not pure Arch itself on those pieces of hardware.)

So, yeah. I don't really feel like complaining about it... Just thought I'd put my two cents in about my experiences with Arch Linux so far.

I don't really feel like complaining about it.

So what are you saying?  And what's the point of this thread?  I can't help but think you were hoping to have something to be outraged about, but instead found everything to be perfectly suitable for your needs ... so you are disappointed?

Re: ...Is that really it?

I get what OP is saying. There's a lot of opinions on the interweb about how difficult Arch is and well … it really isn't.

I see this thread as a big compliment, because in general you can say that stuff is either difficult and limitless or easy and quite limited. Arch is quite easy and still limitless.

Not every thread has to be about problems or about ranting. I think it's nice to read something positive smile

OP makes the point that they're smart enough to use archlinux, btw smile
And because Murphy always rules laws, OP will show up next week with an overwhelming problem they can't solve tongue

Re: ...Is that really it?

I honestly didn't think that this post would attract the attention the way it did. I guess I should re-iterate again in a tl;dr format.
1. Yes, I'm aware folks on the interwebs think Arch Linux is just difficult to install.
2. I kind of gave a bunch of reasons that I did prefer it to many other alternatives --- particularly one that is to never be spoken of on this forum.
3. For now it's true that I didn't complain about it, but that doesn't mean I won't be back with some other problem that I can't solve again in the future.

Bonus: And also, the world's negative enough as is, sometimes what's needed is a little positivity, and if you'll excuse me, I'm probably going to be busy playing some Linux games until I post yet again.
