Hi, i've had this problem for a while now and it's starting to be really irritating
While viewing most video files they crash, not always on the same spot, sometimes they play well.
Vlc seg faults and mplayer says MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: decode_video.
I've tried with nvidia, vesa and nvidia beta drivers, and also with two different video cards.
Anyone can help?

it may help if you run those apps in a termianl and pastebin the output...
http://pastebin.archlinux.org
i.e
mplayer *video_file* > mplayer.op
vlc *video_file* > mplayer.op
simply force the segmention fault, by doinf what caused it in the past.

vlc goes away sliently, zsh says that it had seg faulted
mplayer outputs:
MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: decode_video
- MPlayer crashed by bad usage of CPU/FPU/RAM.
Recompile MPlayer with --enable-debug and make a 'gdb' backtrace and
disassembly. Details in DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports_what.html#bugreports_crash.
- MPlayer crashed. This shouldn't happen.
It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your
gcc version. If you think it's MPlayer's fault, please read
DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html and follow the instructions there. We can't and
won't help unless you provide this information when reporting a possible bug.

umm, i just installed mplayer and vlc ..
they both work here,
maybe u have an issue with the output drivers.
they might werk if u change it...
vlc
Settings > Preferences > {unfold} Video > Output Modules (there is a drop down box, u may need to activate advanced options, checkbox at the bottom of the dialog )
mplayer
run gmplayer, then right click.
Preferences > Video

I found this thread:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=27249
but I don' think it's related (I also have coreutils 6.6-1).

Don't know if it helps but I noticed that sometimes mplayer dies with the same message but saying interrupted by signal 11 in module: decode_audio instead of video.
I also tried watching a video that crashes on arch on windows and it didn't crash.

I removed and reinstalled gcc and could recompile mplayer, but it still crashes.

i dunno what the problem is..
try mplayer-svn,
or totem-xine
or totem and gstreamer0.10-pitfdll

mplayer-svn doesn't compile:
Unknown parameter: --with-win32libdir=/usr/lib/win32
Makefile:7: config.mak: No such file or directory
make: *** No rule to make target `config.mak'. Stop.
==> ERROR: Build Failed. Aborting...
==> ERROR: Reverting pkgver...

to my surprise totem with gstreamer... crashes :x (segmentation fault)
Offline
it doesn't compile cos u passed an invalid option ...
why r u attempting to compile them? lol
it's in the unstable repo.. unstable/mplayer-svn, works fine here .
vlc is also good ...
totem-xine ...
u must be getting sick of this lol ...
btw: did u compile mplayer | or was it from the repos ?
just curious as the compile config can affect stability ...

I was installing mplayer-svn from aur, didn't know it is in unstable.
I tried mplayer both compiled by myself and from the repos, all the other players are from the repos

mplayer-svn crashes as mplayer

Ok, new approach. Could this be heat related?
According to gkrellm my CPU temp is 62ºC (Athlon XP), which looks normal, and System temp is 42ºC, which I don't know if it's hgh
The computer froze while decoding some mp3's, and has frozen some other times.
Offline
the cpu temp imo is too high, the mb/system temp is fine, i'd worry if it starts reaching, and staying at 60+ ..
i use athlon xp-m, and the system, always starts locking up if the temp goes to 60 or above..
mind u, that was only on windows,... i had to remove the tower panels, and get an extra fan in there lol..
but issue with the mm players is, certainly a strange one.. hopefully someone else will come up with a solution, but it's been over a week i think...

Yes, if it was something else i'd probably given up days ago, but video is one of the things i do most on the pc
I removed one of the sides of the case, I hope it helps
