Im running wayfire (im not sure of the scope of this issue), on an hp laptop with igpu and dgpu
when i launch steam with prime-run, it shows up in nvidia-smi but any games i launch do not use the dgpu and instead use the integrated gpu.
same with vulkaninfo is seen, only gpu is renoir
When i use the environment variable
VK_ICD_FILENAMES=/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/nvidia_icd.json exec steam & disown
to launch steam, steam itslef and all games use the dgpu
and vulkaninfo also shows the nvidia gpu
is this intended behaviour? because in the past the nvidia gpu was the default but now i have to specify the correct one

amdvlk doesn't work well on hybrid systems.
remove amdvlk & lib32-amdvlk .
restart wayland (or the whole system) , then run vulkaninfo --summary as normal user.
It should show atleast radv & nvidia drivers.

i removed amdvlk and lib32-amdvlk, but then i realised that it was my own mistake. I had set the VK_ICD_FILENAMES variable to radeon in my configuration and thats why it wasnt working.

Do you have https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/vkdevicechooser installed ?
If yes, remove it. It was useful in the past but is unmaintained and never was part of the vulkan specification .
VK_LAYER_MESA_device_select offers similar functionality, is part of the vulkan specifications and well maintained.

Currently there's no mention of these 2 programs at all in the wiki.
Yes, I do think the vulkan page needs info about selecting an arbitrary card or (software) vulkan driver.
VK_LAYER_MESA_device_select is supported by nvidia proprietary driver, all mesa vulkan drivers, steam/proton etc.
