I noticed that Wine is an optional dependency for Lutris. I am wondering if anyone knows if any other dependencies (optional or not) in the package depend on Wine? In my case, I am considering removing Wine because I always use GloriousEggroll's Proton based Wine builds to run games. But I use GameMode, DXVK, etc. So, does anything depend on Wine?
I'll scan the repo site, but at first glance I couldn't answer my question.

The WINE package that is an optional dependency should not be required to use GE or any of those features of GE. Steam, for example, can run Proton perfectly fine without WINE installed.

Yeah, I know GE builds are standalone. But, I wonder about any other dependencies (optional or not) of Lutris. I'll just have to roll up my sleeves and test.

That's because proton is a downstream fork (maintained by Valve) of wine and replaces it. By installing proton you install valve's fork of wine.
Lutris can be used to make running games easier for many non-steam stuff .
Lutris also offers integration for software purchased from GOG, Humble Bundle, Steam, and Epic Games Store; those can be launched directly through the Lutris application.[5] Additionally, Lutris supports over 20 emulators including DOSBox, ScummVM, MAME, Snes9x, Dolphin, PCSX2 and PPSSPP.
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

I'm about to fire up the testing right now, OG's. I'll post back with results. The only game I have installed is TES: Arena, which uses a DOS emulator (of which I run a native build), but I'm going to get a Wine game installed and test. Nothing to it but to do it.

Tentative results for anyone interested: Wine is not required for Lutris. I say "tentative" because the dependencies may be required. I was able to launch Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice to the main menu, but did not actually play any length of time that could be considered conclusive. Plus, I haven't tried any other game.
I'll keep this thread updated as time goes on.
