Strange behavior of the "sortmirrors" script: Running it results in empty files (only comments remain).
All entries of the listed mirrors are deleted.
netselect package is installed
So, is there someone who can explain what happens here? Solutions?
Btw it is not possible to rebuild the files in pacman.d by running "pacman -S pacman".

Hum, sounds strange, however - i suggest you to just enable your favorite mirrors in /etc/pacman.conf . You can find mirrors here: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mirror

You're the 1000th person to mention this, and everyone agrees that sortmirrors should either be fixed or removed, but nothing gets done.
(Did you delete the files before running pacman -S pacman? It shouldn't overwrite them, but presumably it will create them if they don't exist...)

Reinstalling pacman will recreate the files with .pacnew extensions, so you can just rename them.

No, running pacman -S pacman does not create any .pacnew files in /etc (in my case?). Neither a pacman.conf.pacnew nor any .pacnew files in pacman.d can be found. I copied them from the unpacked pkg.tar.gz file ...
It was just an idea to use sortmirrors because sometimes pacman -Syu takes to much time.
Editing the pacman.conf is easy for me, but i think the solution of the script may be very convenient to find fast mirrors.
So is there someone who can fix the script? (or delete it, because the script at the present state is more than useless, for newbies it might be a bit harmful)
So long

If you provide me with a fixed version, I will fix it.

Maybe the script could be replaced by this one or a modified version: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=19278
