Kernel 2.6.19

I upgraded to the 2.6.19 kernel. Ran mkinitcpio -M and got ata_piix as expected. I didn't make any other changes and every thing works fine (so far) did I do something wrong

Re: Kernel 2.6.19

Still would like to see kernel26 in testing called kernel26testing, it would be easier to just add an entry in grub/lilo rather than ending up with a system that does not boot...

What's for? kernel26testing would not be that useful, as nearly the same could be achieved with kernel26 (or any other kernel for that matter). Another entry in grub's menu.list and voila, here's your working backup kernel.

Being able to help out with testing a new kernel while minimizing the risk of breakage on a production system would be A Good Thing, IMO.  Though I imagine it would be a PITA for the devs to deal with the name change, and there's also the fact that once the change takes place, you'll have two (ostensibly) identical kernels installed with different names.

Re: Kernel 2.6.19

Thing is kernel26 wipes over old kernel26  :?  unless you have beyond or alike installed

of course you can rename vmlinuz26 etc... but you still need to get out the iso or livecd to fix it...

Ok I'm just saying that testing you could always add a kernel26testing clashes with ....

PITA is it that much of task to change name ?

It just my thoughts nothing more... I am quite happy to wait

Anyway what do I know  lol

Re: Kernel 2.6.19

I think this is a good idea too.  Even better would be a scheme to keep the old kernel, but rename it to like "-last" or something, so one can easilly rollback.
That's more complicated, though, and I know no good way to do it.

Re: Kernel 2.6.19

why can you not have kernel version in kernel26 package name

ie kernel2.6.X ?

rather than kernel26 ?

bouncing ideas  :?

As there as so many posts like kernel panic or my system will not boot after upgrade ...

Re: Kernel 2.6.19

I think there should be added some instructions to kernel26.install that will move old kernel26-fallback.img to kernel26-fallback-prev.img so that users can at least edit grub boot entry (on grub boot screen) if new kernel won't start.
