[SOLVED] amdgpu / gdm issues for ryzen 7840u

Hi!

I'm in the process of migrating my arch install to a new computer.

Most of the stuff seems to work fine, but `gdm` fails to start properly.

Looking through the boot logs, there seems to be an issue with amdgpu. If I run `gnome-shell --wayland` manually the desktop does show up, so I suppose the gpu driver must at least somewhat work?

The GPU also does show up when running `lspci`.

Any hints would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Your graphics card is crashing when GDM tries to make use of it, most likely due to the RT thread experiment in gnome 45:  Try exporting MUTTER_DEBUG_KMS_THREAD_TYPE=user like in e.g. https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=289733

Thanks for the suggestion, I did try this, but unfortunately it did not help.

The solution turned out to be much more anticlimactic. A few hours after I made the post, a new BIOS update came out for the laptop that fixed this issue, among others I had.

This is probably not going to be useful for people stumbling upon the post in the future, but in any case the solution turned out to be updating the BIOS on my Framework 13 AMD from 3.02 to 3.03.

Thanks for the help in any case.
