Trying to upgrade arch on ZFS Linux fails

I have an Arch ZFS server and (being a newbie) I haven't been updating it.
This is the first time I've tried to update it in a couple of months and when I run

yarn -Syyu

It fails straight away with the following error:

installing linux (6.3.8.arch1-1) breaks dependency 'linux=6.2.2.arch1-1' required by zfs-linux

How do I upgrade zfs-linux so it can get the right dependency?

zfs-linux is installed using yay.

Re: Trying to upgrade arch on ZFS Linux fails

https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/any/yarn/ ??

Don't use yay and don't use "-yy" if you don't know why (and you evidently don't)

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/zfs-linux is at 6.3.8 - you could also use https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/zfs-dkms
Otherwise just remove zfs-linux, "pacman -Syu" and then re-install zfs-linux.

nb. that zfs-linux frequently drops behind the kernel for hours or days, so you want to make sure that the updated zfs-linux package is available before updating the kernel.
Since the kernel is pretty self-contained, you can also add it (and linux-headers!) to the ignore list and explciitly update it isolation along zsf-linux when the latter is ready.
Don't be too lazy about that, if you never™ update the kernel, you'll likely run into trouble at some point.

Why don't use yay?

Why don't use -yy?

I am new to arch.

Because you don't know what the second y does, read it up.
https://man.archlinux.org/man/core/pacm … PLY_TO_-S)

This also tells me that you're using yay for the only reason that you don't know how to do without, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/AUR_helpers & https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/AUR_he … n_wrappers and especially not why it's important to distinguish between the official repos and the AUR, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Arch_User_Repository

Why zfs on Linux anyway? It's not a catastrophe anymore, but it's obviously far from convenient or even hassle free.
