[solved] HAL/DBUS automounting in KDE - problem (Current)

Hello,

As I can see Others have similar problems with hal after recent upgrades. Me too. I'm "current" with my Arch and I'm using KDE and HAL/DBUS for automounting CD/USB sticks. After recent upgrade to the newest kernel and several base packages I cannot automount my CD. Hald has problems with starting (@) during boot process... I haven't found any usefull informations in logs. I can start Hald from konsole in KDE but I do not get  "new device" window. Here's lshal output - ejecting cd and inserting. Seems ok but there is no CD device in system:/media

# lshal -m

Start monitoring devicelist:
-------------------------------------------------
storage_model_CD_W516EB property storage.removable.media_available = false
volume_label_0202122001 removed
storage_model_CD_W516EB property storage.removable.media_available = true
volume_label_0202122001 added

Anyone has any ideas about it?
Thanks a lot! And best regards!

Hmm... this is strange... now it's working. I did something like that.

1.  changed inittab from 5 to 3 - to not to start X session at boot
2. added "dbus" inf front of "hald" in rc.conf
3. during boot process, after starting dbus and hald, second instance of dbus "screamed" that /var/run/dbus/pid files exists and I should delete it if the dbus is not runnig
4. I deleted the PID file, even the firsta instance of the DBUS was running, and removed "dbus" from rc.conf
5. after reboot hald is loading ok, and CD is auotmounted in KDE as it should be...

this is indeed strange... smile

OK that above was to strange to be correct..... and it wasn't smile.... that's why it didn't work more than once big_smile

But i discovered the solution.... I hope....

HAL cannot be started in background - i mean with @ prefix in daemon table in rc.conf. Without @ it starts and works correct everytime...

So what happend since last upgrade with HAL in ARCH? In the past I loaded hal with @ and everything worked fine...

Best regards to all

Re: [solved] HAL/DBUS automounting in KDE - problem (Current)

Hi, I have a weird problem with the automounting in KDE.
I insert a cd and it asks me what I would like to do, so I tell it to open it up and it works. However, when I want to eject it via the eject button on my physical drives, it doesn't do anything, is there any way to fix that?

While a cd/dvd is used in linux, the drive is locked and the eject button on the drive has no effect.

You need to unmount the cd before it can be ejected.

The easiest way to achieve this in kde is to right-click the drive icon and choose unmount or eject.
Make sure no programs are still using the cd, or you may get problems.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

OUTSTANDING !!

This solved my problem I described hrere :
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … highlight=

Fact is I also had @hal in my rc.conf.  Removing the @, now everything mounts fine.  Also, dbus is not required in rc.conf because hal starts it.
