This is a continuation from the topic "Few AL ideas".... helping with the selection of packages and what are available.

This is a workshop how to develop a comprehensive package information; what each pkg does, features reviews & compare, configure & use, what needed for a particular task, etc.

This workshop is based on AIR development were we can add ideas, see how it works, and new things may come up. If the ideas are good & practical, they can later be suggested also for the Arch's official website.

Question: <b>what to add in AIR </b> to do things what were discussed?... the items, and also if possible how & where.

I am adding the type of application. Any suggestions what types to add in the selection box?

Ok, let's talk with examples. Let's say - gnumeric. It's a growing application and nearly every new version wants more and newer -required or optional - libraries. If you want to build it yourself (v1.2.8)) it's a problem because you can't use older PKGBUILD files.

This is what AIR gives:

1. "home page of gnumeric" from there: http://www.gnome.org/ :shock:
when I want maybe this for gnumeric: http://www.gnu.org/software/gnumeric/gnumeric.html

2. PKGBUILD at arch forum http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=1301& :?
Is PKGBUILD for gnumeric 1.2.8 in your pocket after visiting?

3. And I can't see any "fresmeat" dependancies I need from AIR in here http://freshmeat.net/search/?q=gnumeric :x

but maybe more Arch specific.

4. And if you don't switch off libgda (by default is on) (how - is different question) then you need to know : http://www.gnome-db.org/download.php and follow a particular order (different question as well) when building those libraries.

So, I don't want to repeat other things I said in previous "few AL ideas" topic but first of all:
1. I want at least correct links mentioned above.
2. extra link for dependancies (maybe even for different versions)- ideally tree-shape.
3. extra links to related good pages.
4. more ideas from archers about what we've been talking with rasat.

What do you think?

No 1 should not be a problem.... can be corrected. The 500 package names what are currently in AIR, were entered in less than one week, surely there are faulty links. So lets look from the point of proper links.

The gnumeric's links are updated and here I have added few additional. Is this how we want it as per no 1 and 2?

So,
1 way - those things add people who have access
2 way - let's give access to add things there users themselves - wiki style.
3 way - to add links from packages pages to wiki's purposly designated pages.
4 way - maybe it's possible to get something out of your new wiki user idea in forums and to create (automatically?) links to continuous topics for each package if it is started?

One more idea - to create positions: package information "maintainers" or "editors" (or group of them like "moderators" ) for each package or application or library?

Does it really matter? Whoever makes a package using the pasted PKGBUILD, will certainly check for latest version. Moreover, to be practical, no one will update an incoming PKBUILD because the pkgs are expected to be added in official.

About libgda, when I installed gnumetric few days ago, it worked find if then dependent on libgda or not. By the way, let us try to be more in the matter of what type of information we want in AIR not if currently correct.

These links are not really relevant in an incoming register when the packages are already compiled. AIR is more for the end users who want to install unofficial packages..... not want to wait for the official release, or may never become official.

This doesn't mean I have disregarded you suggestion. The links, the two first one using same starting address, could be made into a variable reading the pkg name..... no additional enty would require.

Good points. I have to think about it.
Something else I have in mind..... if each pkg will be assigned to a type of application..... could one type be related to another type? To some extent this would automate the relationships.
