Installation on NUC12SNKi72: 2023-10 image fails

I tried to use the current image (archlinux-2023.10.14-x86_64.iso) in a NUC12SNKi72.

The cp / cat methods did not work (the stick is not recognized as bootable device), but then I went with Rufus using GPT table and the recommended image mod.

The NUC allows to boot from the stick, but as soon as I try to launch the Arch installation medium, the screen goes black and I cannot do anything. Interestingly, the memory test works and I was suspecting the dual GPU (Iris and Arc). I was told that the Iris integrated GPU cannot be disabled on this machine.

I eventually succeeded by using archlinux-2023.01.01-x86_64.iso instead. I had to plug the network using a USB3 hub, because the old medium did not recognize the integrated NIC.

This box seems to be "picky", I tried some other bootable sticks:

- ubuntu-23.10.1-desktop-amd64.iso failed.
- ubuntu-22.04.3-desktop-amd64.iso worked.

It seems that there is something in newer installation media, which fails.

Now the machine is up, and I will see if it runs OK for some days. But still scratching my head.

Re: Installation on NUC12SNKi72: 2023-10 image fails

I was able to install Hyprland. However, in the next couple of boots, I experienced a black screen issue after the initial systemd boot. Soon after I connected the monitor using the thunderbolt4 port (iGPU), and it was able to boot normally. Yah, I agree that this box is a bit picky. I also wonder how I can disable the iGPU at boot and instead use the A770 dGPU.

In the end, I returned the box (I also found the fans to be too loud when they kick in), so I will not be able to try out anything else.
The technical support from the store where I got the box said that the iGPU cannot be disabled.
