Hey all.
Recently switched from an Nvidia 1660 Super to AMD 7700 XT, and have had this issue since the day I replaced my old GPU. Whenever I try to shut down my PC, my peripherals stay on, monitor goes dark, Arch seems to shut down as normal (I've checked journal, nothing seems to be out of the ordinary), but my motherboard lights stay on, fans keep spinning etc. Holding the power button causes most of the motherboard and GPU lights to switch off and the fans to stop running, except for the RAM motherboard LEDs. I've completely removed the Nvidia drivers from my system, tried updating / upgrading everything, including firmware, to no avail. Reset my motherboard by replacing the CMOS battery too, no dice.
Any insight would be helpful, thanks.

Bumping this, still have no clue what could be causing it

Bumping this
Don't do that: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Genera … es#Bumping
But as you are a fellow Londoner I will take pity on you. Aren't those 20mph blanket limits fucking stupid?

Perhaps share the content here then. Or link to it if it is very large.
Which desktop is this? How are you attempting to shut down, exactly?

Oops, my bad, forgot i'm not supposed to do that
Yeah, they are kinda stupid lol, huge nuisance
I'm on BSPWM, and it doesn't seem to matter how I shut down (i've tried 'shutdown now' in console, and just hitting the power button, both have the same result), it always reproduces the same issue.

So can we see your journal? Try to make it as brief a boot as possible so there's not too much to scroll through. Thanks.

British cars fall apart at ~15mph anyway…

British cars fall apart at ~15mph anyway…
Saw this, but my system doesn't get put in a boot loop, just seems to hang indefinitely with a black screen and some lights on. The only way to really shut it down is to turn it on again, and quickly hit the power button when i'm in the GRUB menu.
Will try to grab some logs soon

Ah, interesting. Hoping a kernel update in the near future fixes it then, thanks for the help.

Are you still having this issue?
I upgraded from a 1070 to a 7800XT and had the exact same problem. So far the issue has been resolved with the kernel update to 6.6.6.
I'm curious if there was a patch in the update or if I'm just getting lucky because the issue didn't happen every single time I would shut down maybe every other time.
