HI everyone,
I'm trying out arch with enlightenment on my asus vivobook X1500E, I've been configuring things and working from tty (with $ enlightenment_start) for a while but enlightenment seems to crash randomly every time I use the kitty terminal showing me guru mediation screens with different errors.
I installed a login manager (LightDM) and since then nothing crashes anymore. But I encounter one little problem : I configured kitty with an opacity of 0.7 and this takes effect when starting from the tty but not from lightDM. Also, the menus are not as nice looking when starting with lightDM.
You can see the opaque kitty term from LightDM launched enlightenment
And (in the time I had to take a screenshot before everything crashing) the translucid kitty term lauched from my tty.
Do you have an idea on having the nice version of Enlightenmentdirectly from lightdm and that would also not crash to guru mediation all the time ? I don't really know how to start digging into the problem here.

I tried running $XDG_SESSION_TYPE when lauching enlightenment from tty it tells "tty" and when lauching from lightdm it says "x11"
When running $XDG_SESSION_DESKTOP, I was able to open a x11 window with the translucid windows and nice looking menus inside the lightdm lauched session until it crashed with the following (also showing in ~/.e-log.log):

You were running enlightenment on wayland from the TTY and apparently that's also what crashed.
lightdm runs on X11 and you're starting an elightenment/x11 session from there and for some reason it believes that
ERR<28072>:e ../src/bin/e_comp_x.c:5942 _e_comp_x_setup() Another compositor is already running on your display server.

Thank you for the explanations ! So I don't think I understand everything but a good way to identify why the wayland-launched enlightenment keeps crashing would be to use core dumps logs through systemd, is that it ? Then, after solving the identified issue, I could use wayland instead of xorg and it would work as I expect, is that it?
Here is the Xorg log, I guess the last lines mean I'm really using X11 here ? (Just to see if I could have a log file with Wayland, I tried journalctl -b | grep -i 'wayland.*] but there were no results)

The coredumps *might* hint at why enlightenment is crashing, particularily along https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Debugg … Debuginfod
The xorg log doesn't explain in any way why you'd not get a composited enlightenment session, you could check the enlightenment settigns and explcitly re/activate the compositor.

Okay, so after re-reading the lightdm arch wiki page and what you told about another session, I understood there was a duplicate session https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/LightD … in_greeter .
Now I corrected this and wayland starts. But the whole thing keeps on crashing whenever I turn on kitty and new thing the cursor gets invisible. I keep you updated on the core dumps when I'll manage to get this done.

I'm trying to reproduce the error and have gdb follow it but I don't really manage to do that. Maybe there's something I missed, each time I try the whole computer freezes and I need to reboot.

Okay, I was a bit desperate and tried uninstalling Enlightenment then removing the ~/.e files and then reinstalling enlightenment and it works from X11: kitty is really translucent. Enlightenment still crashes on wayland though. I don't know if this qualifies as "solved" since technically it's more like a band-aid solution but at least it does the trick for the moment.
